Boston Blackie Auditions

Do you love being on stage but don’t always have the time to be part of a long run? Have you got an assortment of voices waiting to fit just the right character?

You are invited to audition for the Montgomery Playhouse production of 2 radio plays from the Boston Blackie series of the 1940s.

Auditions are April 10 at 7:30 pm in the Carriage House, which is right next door to the Arts Barn, the production venue. Auditions will be readings from the scripts.

Performance date is Thursday, April 27 with two shows at 1 pm and 8 pm. Rehearsals are in the evening on Fri April 21st and Mon April 24th.

Indulge yourself. Take a day off from your ordinary schedule and join us for a terrific day of interaction with the audience, stress-free performing, and maybe just a chance to be a little silly. You don’t have to look like the character, just sound like him/her.

We have opportunities for actors of all ages and types. Boston Blackie is presented as a live radio production with scripts in hand.

Call for Plays and Directors

Call for Original One Act Plays

The Montgomery Playhouse is accepting submissions of original works for its 16th Annual One Act Festival. The plays should be no more than 60 minutes in length and the staging requirements should be minimal. There is no minimum length. Please send an electronic copy of the script to David Jones via email at for consideration. In the event a play is not selected for this festival it will be added to our library of original for consideration in future festivals with the author’s permission. We will be receiving submissions through the month of April.

Call for Directors

The Montgomery Playhouse’s 16th Annual One Act Festival is planned for late July – early August 2017. Anyone interested in directing a one act should contact David Jones via email at The focus this year will be on original works. An original work is defined as an unpublished play. The executive producer is receiving submissions and also has a large library of original works from which a play may be selected.

An American Daughter Auditions Postponed

Due to the impending inclement weather and in the interest of safety first, The City of Gaithersburg is closing the Arts Barn both tonight March 13 and tomorrow. March 14.

The auditions for An American Daughter originally scheduled for March 13 and 14 are now scheduled for next week. Monday March 20 and Tuesday March 21 with call backs, if needed, Wednesday March 22. Auditions are from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. at the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg.
